In the second video in the Learn French for Free series, you are introduced to the verb ‘être’, ‘to be’. You learn some basic French phrases using the different conjugations of être to describe feelings and emotions, as well as to describe other people. In addition, you learn how to use the verb ‘aimer’, meaning ‘to like’ or ‘to love’.

Practice saying each phrase out loud after the narrator of the video and go back and review the lesson again to make sure you remember it.

Some websites make it free to learn French, at least for the basics. The following is the first video from jefrench.com, which has a few free French lessons in both video and audio format. They won’t get you through a vacation in France, but they are a great way to give you a little taste of the language. Also, you can get more out of one of the French language courses you purchase if you already have a feel for the way the language sounds as well as a few basic rules and vocabulary.

Look out for additional free lessons as I add them to this website, as well as French learning games, French words, and other ways to improve your French.
